If you spend any time on a beach, you will be sure to see seagulls dropping oysters and other shellfish on the rocks below them from above to smash them open and eat the critter inside. This would be one cause for all the broken shells on the beach. A second could be the fact that as they are getting rolled around by the tide, the empty shells are hitting rocks and breaking against them, or getting stepped on by beachgoers and shattering (rather painfully) underneath their weight

The seashells may have broken into pieces due to external factors such as strong waves, crushing pressure from larger objects, or exposure to harsh environmental conditions. It's also possible that human activity, like stepping on them or collecting them, could have caused the seashells to break.

If geologists detect many small earthquake in the area near a volcano what can they infer about the volcano?

They may infer that the volcano has become more active - an increase in seismicity (an increase in the number of earthquakes) may be caused by the movement of magma into a high level magma chamber near the earth's surface, causing an increase in the magma pressure which can cause fracturing of the surrounding rock mass. This may be a warning sign of an impending volcanic eruption.
