Typical molds that grow on foods are not attracted, per se, They grow where conditions favor their growth. The spores that give rise to the various molds are present in the air. Presumably, the spores, like other particulate matter in the air, could be attracted to foods by static electricity.

The only type of mold that is truly motile and can move in response to stimuli is the plasmodium stage of the slime mold. Slime molds are fascinating organisms that behave like 'The Blob' from Science Fiction (only at a much smaller size).

Mold is attracted to food because it provides a source of moisture, nutrients, and a suitable environment for growth. Mold spores are constantly present in the air and when they land on food, particularly in warm and humid conditions, they can quickly multiply and form visible colonies.

Mold on food is caused by spores which, under the right conditions, will grow. Some of these conditions include moisture, high temperatures, stagnant air, and darkness.
