The sad parts are when Billy is hunting in the championships and his grandfather badly sprains his foot. And after that it all goes down hill. Old Dan dies shortly after that from protecting Billy from a mountain lion. Little Ann then dies because she has no will to live anymore now that Old Dan is dead. She dies on Old Dan's grave in Billy's arms.

Tone of Where the Red Fern Grows?

The red fern ALWAYS grows theme. You may think there's no red fern around you right now, but if you look hard enough, it will appear, and grow forever. The longer you look for the red fern the faster it grows theme. I've done this before and it's quite reliable. Plus, the theme from the red fern is much higher quality than that of the blue fern.

Is Where the Red Fern Grows a good book?

it really depends on what kind of books you like. i personally thought it was amazing but the ending was phenomenal, where both dogs die, he buries them side by side on a hill, which conveniently, a red fern grows directly between them, just like the legend. i though it was so precious. which explains the title \where the red fern grows" it is pretty good, how hes trying to get money for the dogs, but later on it has some surprising events that take place, like the part when he is caught in the water and the dog saves him, i would recommend it if you like this kind of book, if it doesn't sound interesting, it probably isn't to you.
