Fighting. The males use their long necks to swing as hard as they can and strike the other male in the neck with the horns. It is usually done in competition for mating with the females.
Some believe the horns are cooling towers and release heat, and others think that it's just a way to protect their heads.

The horns on a giraffe, called ossicones, are used for defense and grooming. Male giraffes use their ossicones to establish dominance and fight with other males for mating rights. Females also use their ossicones for protection by swinging their heads to deter predators or competitors.

Why is a giraffe seahorse called a giraffe seahorse?

The Giraffe Seahorse is called that because of their unique look to the coronet (which in my guess is a piece of bone or of their bony armour that is on the top of there head or above the eye) which resembles a giraffe's horns.

What is a Giraffe's horn?

They're not horns. They're not antlers. The "bony things" on a giraffe's head are called "ossicones." They are growths formed from soft cartilage that has super hardened (ossified). They remain covered with skin and hair/fur, unlike the horns of deer and antelopes. Giraffes have 2 ossicones on top of their heads; those of the female are smaller than those of the male. It is with these "horns" that the giraffe can be sexed: Females have a tuft of fur atop of the horn, whereas the males horns are bald. Some males develop calcium deposits on top of their heads, creating an illusion of three or more horns. However, these are not true horns and giraffes always have 2 ossicones.

What characteristics enabled the giraffe to evolve into what it is now?

The characteristics of a giraffe include a long neck, brown spots throughout its body and a pairs of knobby horns on top of its head.
