This is a question both easy and problematic to answer.

Bakelite is comprised of phenol (C6H5OH - yes, it has double bonds) and formaldehyde (CH2O). They mix them together, heat them up and out pops a powder that can be formed into all sorts of useful and decorative goods.

The problem is stating the molecular weight of the product. There are a lot of ways to make this stuff, and all of them produce a compound with a different molecular weight.

If you have molecular weight how can you find equivalent weight?

To determine the equivalent weight from the molecular weight, you need to divide the molecular weight by the valence (or charge) of the compound. For example, for a compound with a molecular weight of 100 g/mol and a valence of 2, the equivalent weight would be 50 g/equiv.
