The evidence that the continents are moving today is actually just a theory, but is accepted to be true. This theory is known as Continental Drift and is described as the continents belonging to tectonic plates, which are basically floating on the Earth's surface. Evidence to prove such is that the continents all fit together like a jigsaw puzzle and related or the same plant or animal species are located on separated continents, suggesting that they were all once connected to allow the animals to roam and the plants to spread. If they have moved in the past, they must still be moving today, and there are projected paths the continents are taking.

Evidence of the movement of continents includes the fit of the continents like a jigsaw puzzle, similarities in rock formations and fossils across continents, matching mountain ranges and geological features, and the presence of ancient climate indicators found in multiple continents. Additionally, the discovery of mid-ocean ridges and the theory of plate tectonics provide further evidence for the movement of continents over time.

What are the four evidences alferd wegener looked at to createhis theory?

Alfred Wegener used four main lines of evidence to support his theory of continental drift: the geometric fit of the continents, matching geological formations across continents, matching fossil distributions across continents, and evidence of past climates from glacial deposits. These pieces of evidence suggested to Wegener that the continents were once joined together in a supercontinent called Pangaea and had since drifted apart.

How do scientists know about continents once existing of landmasses?

Scientists use various pieces of evidence to support the theory of past continents, such as matching geological formations, rock types, and fossils found on different continents, and the fit of continental coastlines like pieces of a puzzle. Additionally, studies of plate tectonics show how continents have moved and shifted over millions of years, providing further evidence for the existence of ancient landmasses.

What continents had ancient civilizations?

The last 500 years explorers of European origin [Spanish, Portuguese, Italians, English, Dutch etc] came in contact with civilizations that were developed in all continents. The last 250 years excavations in all continents brought up in the surface lost civilizations that their evidences proof the expansion of the human activity all around the globe and goes as back in time as almost 4 millions years.

What is the that items that provided evidence that the continents were once closer together?

There are two basic evidences to support this theory: 1. Animals or plants of the same species can be found on separated continents (for example, Africa and Australia or North America and Europe) naturally, and have not been placed by man. This must mean all the continents were previously connected, allowing the animals and plants to disperse. 2. The continents all seem to fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. This must mean all the continents were previously connected, but have since broken off and their Coastlines have eroded since then, which explains why they do not perfectly fit together.

What is the theory now known as of the Pangaea?

Pangaea is the theory that all the continents were all connected in the palezoic era or about 250 million years ago. This theory is supported by the evidence that fossils of animals have been found throughout many continents. other evidences have to do with the similarities of the continents that are said to have been connected during that time period (like the similarities between South America and West Africa). If you look at the map you can see that the continents also look like a puzzle that can be connected together. Geologists have studied the plate tectonics have have come to the conclusion that the theory of Pangaea is seemingly accurate.
