Alkanes are saturated hydrocarbons having a general formula CnH2n+2. Alkanes are unreactive comparing to alkenes, they are not affected by acids or alkalies. But they burn well in a good supply of oxygen, forming carbon dioxide and water vapour. giving out plenty of heat.
