The term 'Tokyoite' sometimes appears in the English-language newspapers available in Japan (The Japan Times and the Daily Yomiuri). In the Japanese language there is a special word for Tokyo residents - 'tomin' (Japanese script displayed here 都民) - pronounced to rhyme with 'bombing'. Since 1952 there is even a public holiday especially for people living in the capital every year on October 1st. Wikipedia informs me that Tokyoite is also the name of a rare mineral found only in Italy and Tokyo, Japan.
