The Haitian government is, of course, partly responsible for the disasters of the earthquake. There are two reasons tightly connected with each other. The poverty of the majority of the Haitian people is due to the missing human dignity and the exiguity of the people's potential to execute a life with dignity. The official policy should have supported the chances to such a life but so far it has made it too little, unfortunately.
The houses fallen into ruin were so weak that the official supervision should not have accepted them. If the inhabitants could not afford to construct properly, had the government to come to their rescue, hadn't it. The world is unfair. This is a view of a westerner.
