Newton's first law is sometimes called the law of inertia. Whether you call it that or not, the first law basically defines the characteristic of inertia.

The law is stated in various ways, but one way is like this.

A body at rest will remain at rest or a body in motion will continue in a straight line with the same velocity unless acted on by an external force.

That is the law. The second law says what happens of you have an external force.

The point is, that the first law introduced the idea that inertia is a natural state of being and an inherent law of nature. There is no magic, things don't spontaneously move around for no cause.

Inertia is the tendency of objects to resist changes in their motion. This concept is described in Newton's first law of motion, which states that an object will remain at rest or in uniform motion unless acted upon by an external force. In other words, inertia is the reason why objects continue to move at a constant velocity or remain stationary unless a force is applied to change their state of motion.

according to first law of motion a body continues to be in a state of rest or in motion until and unless an external force is applied. Now what is inertia let us take an example :- if you are standing in a moving bus and suddenly brakes are applied you will fall forward.now you can notice that before brakes were applied you were traveling in a state of motion but when brakes are applied i.e. you are made to stop and hence you will fall forward .Hence proved that inertia is related to first law of motion . Hope that helps .
