The large intestine can get damaged from conditions like inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, diverticulitis, or ischemic colitis. Other causes may include infections, obstructions, or trauma to the abdomen. Chronic factors like a poor diet, lack of fiber, or certain medications can also contribute to damage in the large intestine.
