There are mold and cast fossils in many local creeks, streams, and/or rivers.

If the original organism dissolves or decays, leaving a hollow in the rock, that is a mold.

If the mold fills up with sediment which gradually hardens into the shape of the original organism, then that is a cast.

Casts are copies of fossilized plants or animals. Molds are hollow impressions of the fossil.
Its a Fossil.

Mold and cast fossils are related but not the same thing. A mold fossil forms when an organism decays and leaves an impression in the surrounding sediment, while a cast fossil forms when that mold is filled with minerals that harden into a replica of the original organism. In essence, a mold is an imprint of the organism, while a cast is a replica.

Most fossils are formed from a mould/cast, which are essentially the same thing. It consists of a hollow being filled with a soluble deposit, and this hollow can be described either as a mould or cast.
