There are many pioneer rock and roll artists who should be, but aren't, in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I think a lot has to do with the prevailing definition of rock and roll. There are on-line petitions and essays supporting Neil Sedaka's entry.Neil Sedaka's current awards:

  1. Songwriter's Hall of Fame 1983
  2. Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
  3. Long Island Music Hall of Fame 2006
  4. Art Gilmore Career Achievement Award 2013
  5. Guinness World Record for the song "(Is This the Way to) Amarillo?" 2006

It appears to me that Johnny Rivers hasn't yet (and I say yet, because if there is any justice at all, he will someday) been graced with membership in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because he is one of the musicians of the "common man," and not a member of the elite rock establishment set. Although, in my humble opinion, he is one of America's greatest rockers, he is not, by all accounts, a musi-politician (aka, "ass kisser") to the music establishment.

Although it would be nice (and most certainly deserved) if he were inducted, whether it happens or not, Johnny Rivers is among the best American rockers ever, and I'm not ashamed to say that his songs, in a very real way, helped me survive adolescence, which as we all know, can be a real bitch (almost as bad as the Boogie Woogie Flu), and we need all the help we can get! Thanks, Johnny!
