Well I heard him sing this song on AI tonite and had to Google his name along with Jesus' to see what i could find (nothing) and then Googled the song title and found this 'unanswered question' so i registered to post my answer...
....I am 54 and NEVER cared for his music in fact I ABHOR his music and wonder why the Band had him appear on the Last Waltz...I was born a Jewish American as was Neil and I came to know Jesus half of my life ago...so when listening to the lyrics of this song tonite, I can't help but to believe he has been born again and now knows Jesus...that is my answer to this question - "Now I saw his face, He's a Believer!"
Many years ago, I began to think that Neil Diamond longed for the grace, hope, love, faith and beauty that are found in Jesus Christ. After he produced his Christmas album, he was asked how a Jewish boy could sing Christmas songs and he replied something to the effect of "How in the world could I as a singer NOT want to sing those most beautiful of all the songs on earth." That answer, along with the Christmas album and several of his earlier songs were what convinced me of that. At that point I began to pray for Neil Diamond personally. I prayed that he would find his way to Jesus Christ and to knowing Him as a wonderful Savior, God and friend.
I know if he announces that he has become a Christian, many people will be upset, even incensed (and no only Jews folks). Even plenty of Christians will be upset, saying that if he didn't announce his conversion from the very start, he must not be real. To those people, I will say, This is HIS life, and he stands before a God of grace and glory who leads people in wonderous way that we don't understand at ALL yet.
I don't know of a certainty that the man is a Christian, but I can and do sincerely hope, and I will continue to pray for him. I have always loved some of his work, and hated some of it, and that makes him about even with other artists I listen to. He's good at what he does and has an amazing voice and fantastic guitar skills!
_Slight adjustment_
One of Neil Diamonds musical peers said that Neil's guitar playing was rudementary!!! but what do I know anyway what difference does it make if he is Christian or not? everyone has the right to choose whatever they want to be and I am not going to pass judgment because I will be judged so Live and Let live there are two things I need to remember that 1. There is a God and 2. I'm not him, maybe if you are full of good deeds try doing them without telling everybody about them!!! or is it a medal you are after... Godbless
I am pretty sure you would be able to buy the Amazing Grace sheet music at Yamaha..
"Page Wilson sings the national anthem before the Richmond Braves game at the Diamond. He estimates he'll be oh-saying-can you-seeing about 6:50 p.m. Wilson's voice is the one you used to hear singing "Amazing Grace" during the Christian Children's Fund commercials."
There are many bad-quality videos available on YouTube of Aaron Neville singing "Amazing Grace." However, one good-quality one is from a medley that he sings at the "Jazz Open" festival held in Stuttgart, Germany in July 1994. See the Related Links.
