A Flute has a higher pitched sound than a uba because it has a shorter tube length.

Remember: wave speed= wave length x frequency

..and a higher frequency equals a higher pitch and a low frequency equals a low pitch, a smaller wave length equals a high frequency and a larger wave length equals a low frequency/

There are several characteristics that make flutes and piccolos sound high-pitched:

  • Depends on how you blow into it (such as more air to get a high Bb, C, D, E, F, etc.)
  • Depends on the length of the instrument (a shorter instrument has a higher-pitched sound, a longer instrument has a low-pitched sound; or not that high)
  • Also depends on the number of keys you cover, because certain keys have higher sounds than others.

So I hope this helps you to exceed your knowledge of the flute!

Because the hole you blow into is narrow, therefore, it creates a high pitch.
