Why did Joel Zimmerman call his artist name deadmau5?

He found a dead mouse in his computer while he was replacing his video card. He talked with people in chat rooms and he became known as "that dead mouse guy" and since his username was too long, he shortened "Dead Mouse" to Deadmau5.

Not too long ago, Joel Zimmerman was making music under the name 'Halcyon441'. Until recently, though. He found a dead mouse in his computer while changing his sound card, then blogged about this. People started to call him the 'Dead Mouse Guy'. Deadmouse was too long to fit as an IRC name, so he shortened it to deadmau5.

well actually they call him deadmau5 because his computer crashed and had a terrible smell that smelled up his apartment and a few weeks later he went to replace something within the computer and he found a dead mouse fried inside of it. So that is now his name, deadmau5 :D
