The fuse for the brake lights is in the engine compartment fuse box, located behind the battery. Open the lid. Several fuses are marked but many are not. There is a group of 12 fuse sockets in the middle of the panel, arranged in 3 rows and 4 columns. The brake light fuse is in row 2, column 2. It powers left, right and middle brake lamps. If your brake switch fails in the ON position, you can pull this fuse until you can get a replacement switch. The drain of these lights being on can kill your battery overnight. Do not drive car without brake lights!
Answerthe fuse panel is located behind the kick panel on the pass side, just below the dash.(to the right of where your feet sit in the floor board) there is also another power distribution panel under the hood next to the battery. Answerthere is no fuse marked brake lights on jeep cherokee's if you have no brake lights and all bulbs are good your problem is the brake switch mounted on your brake pedal, about 30 bucks. That is number 4 on the inside fuse panel, middle, second down from top.
It is on the same circuit as the brake lights, but if they are not working, and the bulbs are good your switch needs cleaning or adjustment.
On the passengers side of the trans there is a fan shaped switch, loosen the 12mm bolt ( smaller of the two, and rotate the switch while a friend checks the lights. this problem is usually accompanied by an occasional inability to start the vehicle, but can be cured by jiggling the shifter.
While adjusting the switch make sure that the vehicle will start in park as well, remember to block the wheels while testing the back up lights, engine off, key in run but not start, shifter in reverse, move switch until lights come on.
Once you find this spot, hold it in place and have your helper check to make sure it will start. This may take several tries to get both working correctly.
If you have no luck the switch may be dirty, this happens a lot. Hold the post to the bottom large bolt still while you loosen the nut, then remove it, then remove the 12mm adjusting bolt on top, remove the wire connector and pull the switch away, remove the bolts on the switch and separate the halves, use electrical contact cleaner and maybe some q-tips to clean all the copper connections completely and reassemble, refit to the trans and readjust so all functions work, this switch controls back up and start safety.
Caution! always hold that bottom bolt while tightening the large nut, this is connected to the gear adjuster and you could damage the internals if it isn't secured while you do it.
The brake light switch is located near the top of the brake pedal. When the pedal is depressed the switch is activated and sends current to the brake lights. To access the switch, the under dash panel needs to be removed.
The fuse block in in the engine compartment under a cover, the fuse panel is located in a panel you access when you open the passenger side door.
AnswerThat is the way it goes. Really about the only way is to remove the fuses one at a time and see when the brake lights go out. If the lights are not working, just pull fuses until you find one that is blown.Don't forget to check under the hood on the passenger side fender- there's another fuse block there!Check the brake light switch located above the brake pedal, sometimes they go bad, delicate reed switches inside. when you buy the new part - READ INSTRUCTIONS FIRST!! It's a self adjusting part, and you only get one shot at installation, it's an easy fix. Do NOT push the plunger down on the switch, if you try to reset it you will damage the switch, just follow directions word for word and your golden.
If it's the same as a 1999 Cherokee.......... It's under the dashboard to the left down of the steering wheel. There are about 4-6 screws that hold a small panel a 10 - 12 inches square or so. Hard to see down there. If you can get the panel off go to a auto parts place and the will.... Hopefully take it out and replace it for you. That is if it's the same as a 1999 Jeep Cherokee. Hope this helps some.
It depends, some are in the door, some are in a fuse box.

The brake lights are accessed through the rear hatch. Find the panel on the rear sides of the car. Pop out the panel and access the brake lights. Replace the bulbs.
Check fuse number 4 on the inside fuse panel, something made it blow though so expect it to go again until you find the reason.
