He began his true rise to fame in 1970 with his self-titled album and it's later-hit song, Your Song. However, it was not his recordings that brought him fame. It was only when he started playing live in the United States he became famous. His first performance in the US, at the Troubadour Club in Los Angeles, California, was exactly what catapulted him into the spotlight, most noted for his flamboyant playing, and although his album's music was dark and moody, he brought it to life with his lively singing and performing.
