ray Charles voice does not fit any 'classical' voice type. The best way I could describe his voice is as a baritenor. He had the tone and richness of a baritone but lacked the 'bass' notes even high baritones can sing. The incredible thing about his voice is his powerful belting ability, it is a musical technique. As well as the passionate nature of his voice. A lot of rock singers would be described as 'middle voices' such as the baritenor, because non-classical singers can sing however they want. Sometimes it is the ugliness, that is beautiful.
