ABBA is popular because they have very catchy song lyrics and people can easily sing along to their songs. Also because they all have a good beat so people can dance to them and the appear to look really friendly. That's why people like them.

Well every one of the songs in Mamma Mia! was an ABBA song, but I'm assuming you mean, were any of the songs on the soundtrack actually recorded by ABBA. The answer to that is no, they were all newly recorded for the film and featured the film's cast on vocals. However several of ABBA's original backing musicians did perform on the soundtrack, most notably Benny Andersson, who was the group's keyboard player and music composer. He played keyboards on every track, including the piano solo on Thank You for the Music with Amanda Seyfried over the end credits. (He's the piano player who appears on the dock during Dancing Queen.) Benny also produced the film along with ABBA lyricist and guitarist Bjorn Ulvaeus. The other original ABBA musicians who performed on the soundtrack were Rutger Gunnarsson, who was ABBA's bass player from the very beginning, Lasse Wellander on guitar, and Per Lindvall on drums.

Unsure of your meaning. Every song in the musical, both stage and screen versions, are original ABBA songs, written by Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson (some with Stig Anderson) between 1973 and 1982. There were no new songs written for the musical, which is why none of the music was eligible for Tony or Oscar consideration. In the movie version, the ABBA song "When All Is Said And Done" was included and performed by Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep. It does not appear in the stage version.

Believe it or not, the stage and movie versions were written for the ABBA songs. The writer built a story around the music.
