Without Jimi Hendrix, I would say that there is no such thing as better because it's all a matter of personal taste and each great guitarist has his/her own style just like each painter is different, but there's no one who's the best. After Hendrix, I would have to say he's the best because no one comes close. It's just like for example you have a hundred super strong men and can't decide who is the strongest, and then a 50 feet giant comes your way. There's no question now who is the strongest.

sadly, yes. after Jerry Garcia's death they disbanded and went separate ways. Another Answer: No. Each of the boys had their own side bands for years including Jerry while still playing together as the GD. But the remaining members do still occasionally play together under the name of The Dead.
