It can be a very dangerous job since they are working with electricity flowing in the electric lines. In the song the lyric goes something like, "I need a vacation, but it does not look like rain" this is because it is to dangerous to work on the electric lines during rain, since rainwater conducts electricity, so most lineman work is suspended until it stops raining.
