The date on the can is for best flavor and is a manufacture's suggestion. commercially canned goods will last for 100 years and not go bad. As a practical matter foods high in acidity will be OK for four years after the sell-by date and other food will last eight years. After that the flavors my get funky.

People then eat the fruits, vegetables and animals to sustain life. The left over or decomposing fruits and vegetables or the seeds from them, go back into the soil which allows more fruits and vegetables to grow.
