In the broadest sense, the function of radio is to carry information from place
to place without the need of a medium, such as fires, drums, cannon, runners,
stagecoach, Pony Express, pigeons, wires, etc.
If you can imagine yourself in a time and place where a physical connection was
absolutely necessary in order to move even the simplest message between
locations, perhaps you can understand what a big deal the development of
radio was, and how it changed the world.
An amusing factoid:
The technology wasn't called "radio" at first. It was referred to with the quaint,
old-fashioned name of "wireless". Surprised ?

A clock radio and an alarm clock are two very similar things which provide some of the same functions however they differ in their features. An alarm clock is a basic clock which has an alarm function and a clock radio combines the use of an AM/FM radio and an alarm clock.
A two way radio allows two persons to communicate with each other while separated by some sort of distance. A wireless frequency is used for them to communicate and they must be on the same channel.
"Solid State" refers to any electronic device, in this case a radio, that functions on transistors and crystals, rather than vacuum tubes or other heated-filament components. Its basically synonymous with "transistorized."

This will depend on the brand. Most boomboxes do have radio functions that will allow the user to listen to the radio. There are some that do not have this function. Be sure to check for this feature before you purchase the boombox.
You would probably be using a radio receiver. It is possible you'd be using a transceiver, which combines the functions of a transmitter and a receiver.
Some functions that iPod car transmitters have are easy to use interfaces, creating mini radio stations, and transmitting what's being played on the iPod onto the FM radio and having your car be able to tune into that.
TV and radio don't need motors in order to do the job they're designed for. Almost none of them have motors, and the few that do have them, use them for functions that are largely unrelated to the basic functions of radio and TV, like running a fan to keep the electronics cool, turning the shaft of a detent tuner, turning a directional antenna, etc.
I pulled the plug out of the amp that is in the trunk, under the package shelf that controls the radio functions, this may help with your problem.

-- Thoroughly identify all of the radio's functions that are operating normallyand those functions that have failed.-- With the help of those two lists as guides, identify the radio's subsystem that hasceased normal operation and, if possible, the component or components within thatsubsystem that have failed.-- Repair or replace the failed component/s, or the faulted subsystem, or the radio itself, according as is appropriate after estimating the cost and time to repair or replace in thespecific case of the root cause identified.
