to place without the need of a medium, such as fires, drums, cannon, runners,

stagecoach, Pony Express, pigeons, wires, etc.

If you can imagine yourself in a time and place where a physical connection was

absolutely necessary in order to move even the simplest message between

locations, perhaps you can understand what a big deal the development of

radio was, and how it changed the world.

An amusing factoid:

The technology wasn't called "radio" at first. It was referred to with the quaint,

old-fashioned name of "wireless". Surprised ?
