A studio piano is used in 'studio' work, i.e. recording for album production, rather than live or concert work. It is voiced 'lighter', 'brighter' and with more overtones than one for concert work. Concert piani are 'darker' 'fuller' and with fewer overtones, relying on the dynamics of the venue. A studio piano is more likely an upright or smaller scaled 'real' or 'baby' grand. p.s. ask somebody else about electric, electronic or synth "piano"
