Probably a male American Goldfinch in breeding plumage. But I think this description could fit the males of the Evening Grosbeak, Lesser Goldfinch, Scott's Oriole, Townsend's Warbler, or even some flycatchers, depending on lighting. American Goldfinch are just the most common and widespread.
