The country song, "A Satisfied Mind," was written by Joe Hayes and Jack Rhodes.Porter Wagoner released the single with RCA Records in 1955, and it spent one month at #1 on the country music charts. So powerful was the songs lyric, that several cover versions emerged, including Jean Shepard's cover for Capitol Records, and Red Foley's cover of the song for DECCA Records.Other country and pop singers would record the song over the years, including Gram Parson in the band International Submarine Band, as well as Johnny Cash.

I believe Joel, needs to go back and study the History of Country Music a little more harder. Kitty Wells, the Queen of Country Music had recorded over 80 singles and 43 albums, by 1973. Many of those singles reached into the Top #10 and some reached into the Top #5 spot on the country music charts. Out of the 80 singles, Kitty Wells charted 23 times at the #1 spot, and still holds the record of the most #1 hits for a female country singer (that would include more than Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, and even Reba McEntire). Linda Ronstadt has recorded about a half a dozen country singles, but, not all reached #1 on the country music charts. Linda went from Rock to Country, and spent the rest of her career as a Pop Music artist. If the great and beautiful ladies of country music such as Loretta, Tammy, Dolly, and Reba have been unable to break Kitty's record. Then, I don't think Linda has any chance either! For reaching #1 on the country charts 23 times, isn't a very easy thing to do!!
