An Erhu is a traditional chinese instrument while the violin is western. Compared to the Erhu, the violin has more strings to it therefore making a sharper tone and and Erhu is more slim in comparison. Also, an Erhu needs to be played sitting down, settling its bottom on the players thighs.

Based on my experiences, having used both instruments, I can say that a violin speaks. It has sharper tones and a clear range of sound that can be heard note for note. An Erhu sings, as in it's tones meld together to for a voiced quality of music that sounds almost human in nature. I've also noticed that Erhu's produce a sound that is melancholy in nature, and violins produce a more amiable sound. (Not that they cant both produce happy and sad sounds, but it's just something I've noticed at as generalization.)
The cello has a C string and is lower in pitch than the violin.
A cello can play in the range of a violin (much of it), if that's what you mean, but a violin's highest note is much higher than a cello's highest note.
The 'cello is larger than the viola, which is larger than the violin.
