Hi there!! That is a very good question. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity; Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. The Holy Spirit has been active in our lives since the creation of the earth. He guides us and comforts us as well as helping us know right from wrong. When Jesus went into Heaven after His resurrection, He sent the Holy Spirit to dwell within us and to be our conscience. The Holy Spirit offers us many gifts as well, tongues (speaking in other languages or a distinct prayer language), prophecy,discernment wisdom, etc. I would read The Bible starting in the NT after Jesus went back to Heaven. Here are some verses: Romans 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

1 Corinthians 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

1 Corinthians 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

1 Corinthians 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
