Virtually zero HAVE to say something on this: To my understanding, if a woman is having normal periods, she is still ovulating and that means she can get pregnant. Tubal ligations are 99 percent effective -- apparently but I know not just one but several people who have gotten pregnant after a tubal ligation -- sometimes 10 to 20 years after. Because you had a tubal ligation, your chances of this pregnancy being ectopic (outside the uterus) are increased. One percent is one percent -- that means there is still a chance and if you count the odds over time and sexual activity, it would seem the chance is greater. Don't assume you are not pregnant because of your age. It is ovulation that matters.

Having a tubal ligation makes no difference to your periods. If you have a hysterectomy you will no longer have periods, well not the bleeding anyway. If you do not have your ovaries removed you will still have pre-menstrual symptoms (if you have them) but you will no longer have cramps or bleeding. If your ovaries are removed as well you will go into the menopause.

Allow me to answer from experience....YES IT CAN. The chance is very small, from what I've read in the 1-2% range, but I myself am a child of pregnancy after tubal ligation. Upon having her tubes cut and burned further, the doctor said he had no idea how that could happen as everything looked still separated. Of course, you have to take the chances into the proper context; HIGHLY UNLIKELY, but entirely possible.
