Some of his lyrics also brought hope to the African-Americans of the 20's and 30's living in Harlem particularly, as well as other parts of the U.S. He also brought much personality to his playing and his singing, bringing out more expression in his performance along with popularizing all the things that he did.

Armstrong's first instrument was a cigar-box guitar.

Armstrong was arrested and sent to Waif's Home for a year's discipline,because he shot off an old "38."

13.His nickname "Satchmo" came from his original nickname of "Satchelmouth," because of how his mouth, cheeks, and lips blew up when he played.

Even though his health began to get worse, he continued to record songs in between visits to the hospital.

One of Louis Armstrong's greatest achievements was learning to keep his foot moving while he slept sitting in a chair in a tavern as a kid in New Orleans. If you kept your foot moving, you weren't thrown out for sleeping.
