as far as i am concerned its the Ukulele-cost around £20
The Flute is a Melodic instrument, in a Concert Band it can be heard playing the melody along with many solos. In a Orchestra, it can be heard doubling the Violins an octave higher, or playing Solos.
There is no such thing as a reed flute; flutes have an embouchure hole that you blow across, down, into the hole, above the hole or straight on the hole. If a flute were to have a reed it would be held down, like the oboe or clarinet. There are, however, wooden flutes. If you are good at fingering on the flute but blowing on the reed, I suggest an oboe, as they are a reed instrument and have a similar fingering. The oboe is a very unique instrument. There are usually about 3 in a college band. Source(s): Band Geek :)
There is no difference in the actual instrument, it's just the style of music that is played. A jazz flute is in a jazz band, and plays jazz music. Jazz parts for flutes are very rare though.
The flute is in the woodwinds section of an orchestra.

the piccolo has a higher pitch than a flute but a piccolo can get as silent as a flute it just depends on how good of a player you are . Any instrument can go from playing very soft to playing very loud music. Piccolos are the highest pitched instrument in a band and even if your not playing loud you can be heard over the rest of the band trust me i play the piccolo and i play very loud caz i like people to know i am playing.

The clarinet is used in bands . such as marching band. it is a woodwind like the flute or Sax
There are several bands that currently produce flutes music. Some of which are Newtown Defenders Flute Band, and the Cambuslang Brittania flute band. These groups are dedicated to flute music.
