Techno is commonly said to originate in 1980's Detroit. This style and period of techno is commonly referred to as Detroit techno. As hinted at, this "genre" is very much alive. But some people say that techno has its real origins in the late disco/early house scene sparked off by Donna Summer's 1977 hit "I Feel Loved" which at the time was said to be a very "futuristic" song. But without a doubt, the Detroit techno scene was most likely spawned by the late '70's early 80's house scene. Noted Detroit techno artists from the mid 1980's are Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, and Derrick May. I hope this answers your question!
"techno music was originate in Montgomery Alabama and introduced to Detroit in the 1980's" Whoever posted that one must have laughed pretty hard. Techno was originated by Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunerson in Detroit in the early/mid-80s. They were influenced by a mixture George Clinton style funk, the electronic experiments of Kraftwerk and the then newly emerging house scene in Chicago. I've heard that the word Techno was originally used in a book that Atkins had read that described a theoretical culture of the future, and that Atkins felt that the music he and his friends were making sounded like the soundtrack to that culture.
The first Techno producers were Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May and Eddie Fowlkes, they brought the new genre during the 80's, however they were not the first electronic music producers, one of the first early electronic music producers were Kraftwerk.
Techno Brain was created in 1997.

First, please note that techno is a sub-genre of electronic dance music (EDM) that emerged in Detroit during the mid to late 1980s. "Techno" is very often confused with generalized descriptors of EDM, such as electronic music and dance music. The initial blueprint for techno was developed during the mid-1980s in Belleville, Michigan, by Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May (the so-called Belleville Three), and Eddie Fowlkes.Of the four individuals responsible for establishing techno as a genre in its own right, Juan Atkins is widely cited as "The Originator"Other notable artists:The Advent (UK)Frankie Bones (USA/New York)Dave Clarke (UK)Carl Cox (UK)Laurent Garnier (France)Richie Hawtin (Canada)Orbital (UK)Aphex Twin (UK)Umek (Slovenia)Ricardo Villalobos (Chile)and many more...

Its a brand of Techno. Techno/pop, I guess? I dunno I've heard some people refer to them as Techno/Punk...... I dunno what I'd call it exactly, but yes, it is Techno. (But not raw/pure Techno)
