In order to answer the question one must first find out what is the definition of satanic. Satan means adversary. The Bible depicts him as a fallen cherubim who is now opposed to everything that is of God including ALL things that are pure, holy, true, just and righteous. With that definition you don't need to even look further than the name of this rock group. Judas was one of the twelve disciples whom the Bible says, "Satan entered him" (John 13:27) and he when out and BETRAYED the Lord of glory! With the title "Judas Priest" are they not implying that they are in the same mind with Judas by elevating him to the level of priest? Judas, after he took money and betrayed Jesus, gave the money back and said "I have betrayed an INNOCENT man" and then went out and hung himself! Judas is referred to in other passages as "the son of perdition" (destruction).
Now if we look at this groups lifestyle, lyrics and album covers we can clearly see that there is no trace of anything holy, righteous and godly. Just because satanic rock groups quote scripture does not mean they believe it or honor it. Most of the time they openly mock the Bible. By the way, a cross is not a true Christian symbol. It dates back to thousands of years before Jesus was born as the Egyptian symbol for the deity Tammuz.
It depends. If your talking about Ozzy's sabbath, i don't think so. Though some lyrics contain evil imagery, they are not promoting satanism. I am not a satanist and believe in god and love sabbath. The reason why their music contains some evilness in it is because it was their new expierment of creating a scarier rock. "Instead of people going to see scary movies, why not listen to scary music?" Ozzy said once. If your talking after Ozzy though, you'll find some albums are very satanic such as Born Again. Some Dio stuff is across the line, but some of it, if you are not a satanist, is good.
No, they don't worship the devil. A lot of heavy metal bands don't worship the devil. I blame that on the "Satanic Panic" of the 1980s. In fact, Satanists don't worship Satan. "Satan" is Latin for "Nonconformity", which is why they are atheistic. Devil worship is called "Reverse Christianity", as Christianity is the only religion with Satan specifically in their belief system.
Actually, the term "Judas Priest" comes from a Bob Dylan song, "The Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest".
No, just because the word "Priest" is in a heavy metal band's name doesn't make them reverse Christians. Don't judge a book by its cover.
