October 3, 1945 Elvis went to the Mississippi Alabama Fair and Dairy Show which took place in Tupelo and he sang "Old Shep" while standing on a chair participating in the " youth talent contest". The talent show was broadcast over WELO Radio and Elvis won fifth prize and got $5.00 (five dollars) in fair ride tickets.

Elvis Presley Fans often debate what place Elvis took in this talent show and Elvis himself either forgot what place he took or said "I think I took 6th place".

After extensive research Elvis Presley Historian Jeffrey Schrembs validated Elvis' appearing in this talent show and cross referenced the known photographs and newspaper clippings from the talent show to confirm the answer stated here.
