The value of Lado Guitars varies with the series, model, condition, and amount of customization done to the instrument (and whether the customization was done by Lado during the manufacture of the instrument or by a third party or at date other than the manufacture date by Lado themselves).
The most inexpensive instruments with the Lado name are the "Hawk Series" which are made in Korea. They are actual Lado designs but manufactured in Korea to give entry level players the chance to own a Lado design without having to raise the money required to purchase an actual Canadian hand made Lado instrument. Used "Hawk Series" Lado instruments in excellent condition can be expected to sell for between $300.00 and $500.00 US.
Lado instruments hand made in Canada at the Lado custom shop are among the best instruments available in the world. A standard model (not a custom order) Lado instrument in excellent condition can be expected to sell for between $800.00 and $2500.00 US. At the low end is a standard opaque finish instrument with non-exotic woods and standard electronics packages. At the high end are exotic wood transparent or translucent finish instruments with special electronics.
There are some extremely rare Lado models that are valued in excess of $5000.00 US as they are examples of certain periods in Lado history and contain parts that are collectible and valuable in their own right. For example several Lado basses made in the late 1970's contain hand wound Sergio pickups. Sergio pickups are extremely rare and considered by many to be the finest sounding passive pickups ever produced. Other models were produced in extremely low quantity (there are even some one-of-kind custom order models).
