It was in Moscow in 1991, it was the Monsters of Rock tour where Metallica played with bands such as Panterra, AC/DC and Black Crows. There were over 500,000 people there as it was a free concert at Tushino airfield. The BEST concert was Seattle in 1989. Played all their best songs. And did it AWESOMELY.
if you are talking about the legendary concert at the air base (toshima air base or something like that) in Moscow then supposedly it is something like 1-1.5 million
the monsters of rock concerts were fairly large. the most well known being live at donnington. However their largest concert that I'm aware of was in moscow, 1991 where they preformed in front of some 1.6 MILLION people. i believe this is also where they dropped the infamous angus bucks. which, for a time, were worth more than the rubble because of their rarity.
One time that they played together was at Tushino Airfield outside of Moscow in 1991 for the free Monsters of Rock concert. They also played with Pantera.
