How do you program your keyless remote for a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This information can be found in your owner's manual. If you do not have one, you can obtain one from your dealer or a salvage yard. Open the drivers door and turn the key to the on position. Lock the doors with the switch on the door. After the doors lock point the transmitter to the little bulb on the ceiling. Press the LOCK button and hold it until the doors unlock. Your done! You can also use your existing remote to program a "learning" remote - for example, my television remote can also unlock my car doors. This is pretty cool except if you take your television remote with you say to the store and whip it out as you approach your vehicle you might get some weird looks. Also, it's a little inconvenient for guys because of the remote size. Note, I have a DVD installed in my Jeep and my remote works for that too.

I have a 98 Pontiac Transport and I had to reprogram my keyless enrty remote also. All I had to do is press and hold both lock and unlock buttons for about 5 seconds or until you hear the horn sound.

must take in to dealership to have computer read and coded for remote to work No you don't, I couldn't find the exact answer, but this is how you do it on a 2001 GM truck. # Close all the vehicle doors. # Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder. # Press and hold the door unlock switch. # While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, cycle the ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF. # Release the door unlock switch. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm the program mode. # Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously on one transmitter. After a delay of approximately 15 seconds , the doors will lock and unlock to confirm the programming of that transmitter. # Repeat the previous step to program up to four transmitters. # Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position in order to exit the keyless entry transmitter mode. # Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

Must be done by dealer. The 99-04 remotes require a tool known as a DRB III scanner. Until recently this tool was only available to Chrysler dealers. It can now be purchased by anyone, but it's an expensive tool. Retail price of the tool is over $8,000. Used ones are available on Ebay and elsewhere but still sell for several thousand dollars.
