Park it. Gee maybe run out and spend $30K on a Prius or other Japanese Hybrid! I have subject vehicle and average 20+ mpg, better than EPA, and too good to justify upgrading to a comparable 'new' vehicle promising 23 mpg (AWD or 4X4 in this size and range is the best you can hope to do). Mileage is always 22-23 on a trip; less around town-- and the engine/drivetrain on this vehicle has been exceptionally reliable. After 115K miles, I couldn't be more satisfied! The I-6 is widely appreciated for long life, low mileage, reliability. And I'd avoid a 'rubber band' engine at all costs-- that being one with a timing BELT that is expensive to replace, stretches over time, and can cause major engine damage if it snaps-- so Jeep is my vehicle of choice. 1.) Remove the cross rails on the roof rack, adds about 1 mpg on a trip. They easily slide off the rear if you gently pry up the black covers. They are easy to replace if you need them any time. 2.) Filters, tire pressures, plugs, etc. as with any other vehicle. 3.) Avoid Ethanol-diluted fuel whenever possible; while it runs OK the economy drops about 10%. 4.) Drive conservatively-- I attribute this to the great experience with this vehicle. Any other ideas (other than park it)?!
