You do need to have an internet connection in order to download the songs in Magic Piano by Smule, however this does not necessarily need to be through your WiFi connection. There is no official offline-mode to play Magic Piano. Hope this helps!

Presumably the act of sharing in one of these ways means that your performance gets uploaded to the web, meaning that it can then be accessed by people's World menu. Smule suggested in the same post that if you are only looking to share to World, you could email your performance to yourself.
