John Denver was NOT a Satanist! (I think somebody's having a laugh asking this!)He was raised Lutheran, and made several Christmas tv specials where he indicated he believed in the divinity of Jesus.(Jim Henson, who was a practising Christian, was a close friend.)In his autobiography,'Take Me Home' he did, like many raised in the hypocritical atmosphere of the '50s,express distaste at the judgemental, scaremonging and fire and brimstone preaching of supposed 'followers' who in his mind, where not good examples of what they espoused..Lapsing from his childhood faith,in the early seventies he experimented with various New Age beliefs, like Est,pyramid power, rolfing, and TM.However,by the time of his adoption of Anna Kate in 1978,he began leaning back to a more traditional faith. He and his daughter often held hands and prayed at dinner. He often said that he never lost faith in 'My Father in Heaven' and his song,"Singing Skies and Dancing Waters' was,he said,a reflection of that faith:

"If my faith should falter,

And I should forsake u,

and find myself turning away,

will u stilll be there?'

"I'll be there in singing skies and dancing waters

Laughing children,growing old.

And in the heart and in the spirit

And in the truth when it is told."

Denver often painted a picture in a belief in a Christian-based idea of an afterlife in many songs eg The wings that Fly Us Home'.'Wings of a Dream'(after the death of his father)

Perhaps his most famous line about a diety can be found in his 1972 hit Rocky Mountain High:

"You can talk to God and listen to the casual reply."

No, John Denver was not a Christian. He had Zen Budhist beliefs up until the time he died. *to clarify* : : Although John felt strongly about some of the beliefs that are Buddhist, one need only listen to the words to "Singing Skies and Dancing Waters" to know that he still held strongly to the Christian beliefs that he was raised with.
