I have an ec-1000 (w/o Floyd Rose) and it's an excellent guitar. Just keep in mind that it comes with active pickups, as some people prefer passive pickups. It's also important to consider whether you want the Floyd Rose bridge or not.

It isn't. LTD is ESP Guitars' budget brand. LTDs are made in Korea and Indonesia; ESPs are made in Japan. Many ESP models, such as the Kirk Hammet signature model, have lower-priced LTD versions, and many guitar catalogues -- such as Sam Ash and Musician's Friend -- have stopped showing the higher-priced ESP versions and started to emphasize the low-to-mid-price LTD models instead.

Ibanez vs dean vs ESP?
They have their pro's and con's. ESP has neck through construction for better sustain and easier access to higher frets, some higher end ESP's have Original Floyd Roses (the best tremolo out there) and active pickups. Ibanez is usually cheaper and a lot easier to find. There is a lot more choice with ibanez and they often feature more interesting parts than ESP's. Don't limit yourself, look at Jackson (probably the best metal guitar company out there) and just try out what you like. I would personally say ESP, but try out a few of each company. Jackson.
