neither marilyn manson and slipknot are goth. marilyn manson is associated with mall goths or spooky kids, and slipknot is a nu metal band. however, you can totally be goth and listen to these amazing artists, you just have to listen to real Goth Music in addition to it such as the cure, the sisters of mercy, bauhaus, and siouxsie and the banshees. also, goth isn’t just music taste. it’s an aesthetic, a lifestyle, a way of thinking, and a general preference for dark things. hope this helps xx

This includes: Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees/Siouxsie Sioux, Skeletal Family, Alien Sex Fiend, Sex Gang Children, Blood Dead and Sexy, .45 Grave, 13th Moon, Veronica Lip Gloss and the Evil Eyes, etc. This does NOT include: Marilyn Manson, 69 Eyes, Lacuna Coil, Slipknot, Evanescence, etc. You DON'T cut your wrists to be Goth. You DON'T wear nothing but black to be Goth. You DON'T shun people to be Goth. You DO enjoy listening to Gothic Rock, Batcave, Dark Cabaret, Darkwave, etc. All that really matters is that you enjoy Goth music.

goth is a music and fashion subculture contrary to popular belief it is not a state of mind,religion etc. if your friend shops at hottopic and listen to nu-metal(evanessence,korn,slipknot etc.)they are not goth, they are a poseur. if the listen to siouxsie and the banshees,bauhaus,sisters of mercy, astrovamps, all gone dead,joy division,the cure etc. and buy their clothes in underground stores or make them themself the are a goth. goths can be perfectley normal, most of what you think you know about them is false.
