Cecilia was depressed, and did not enjoy life nor seem to care for any of the people in it. And the rest of the girls follow her, obviously missing their sister, and also to be at peace and free of their restrictions. It's an amazing novel and film because of how open it is. It leaves you thinking. My points are merely speculation as there is no concrete reason the girls committed suicide. Which is why, it's so beautiful.
