The letter A (red in a white circle) is reserved for new drivers, who passed their drivers' licenses less than three years before - two years for those who gained additional mileage in the parental driving scheme. During the time you have to display that red letter, you have to comply with a reduced speed limit and you don't get the full amount of credit points on your license.
