Why didnt karishma Kapoor get married to abhishek bachchan?

There are two theories going around:

1. Babita was not at all happy to let Karishma marry a loser. But on her daughter's persistence she allowed and got her engaged to Abhishek. Jaya came to know about Babita's resistence quite late and being a superficial super-ego woman she declared that if Abhishek marries Karishma she will move out of the house. Amitabh, Abhishek wanted Karishma as their bahu while Shweta was on her mother's side. Finally they mutually agreed and broke the engagement.

2. Some websites quote that after their engagement, Jaya did a cross check of her future bahu. It came out that her earning sources were much more than her bollywood films or ads. Her trips in the early 90s to Gulf royal houses (on contexted occassions of birthday parties) was something which netheir she could agree nor her mother could explain. Not compromising on their name brand, she decided to call its quits.

Perhaps they did not want to.
