It was intended by the White Star Line to make Titanic the most luxurious ship of its kind. The design style was not unlike that of an English manor or country house in the Renaissance to Victorian eras, and they intended it to make it feel as if you are staying in a high class hotel. Even Third Class had nice amenities to make it more comparable to Second Class in other ships.
