Why did Matthew Tuck get his voice changed?

During June 2007, Matt suffered from laryngitis, which let to an emergency tonsillectomy in July. He became unable to speak, and luckily he started singing again after he healed.

But he had to start singing from zero, because his throat was new to him after the intervention.
