Adam Schiff (Steven Hill) was the District Attorney for seasons 1 to 10. When Schiff left he was replaced by Nora Lewin (Dianne Wiest), who served for seasons 11 and 12. Lewin left at the end of season 12 and was replaced by Arthur Branch (Fred Dalton Thompson). Branch was DA from season 13 on through 17. Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston), who had been Executive ADA since season 5, was promoted to District Attorney at the beginning of season 18 and was the DA until the end of the series.
