Bollywood the term coined was earlier for the Hindi cinema going in Bombay now know as Mumbai.
While there was bollywood there were many other cinemas which were also going on in rest of India in their respective local languages.
But due to use of more advanced technology and with huge visitor list as in year 1913 it was the only cinema that was producing films in Hindi language so as to reach large number of peoples which made it to gain popularity.
The key person who was behind all this was Mr. Dadasaheb Phalke on who's name now the biggest award in Indian cinema is given i.e. Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
He started making the film prior to 1910 only but at that time women's were not allowed to work in films with other man so it took 3 years for a very short length first silent feature film to come on screen which was Raja Harishchandra which was 40 minutes in length and all roles were performed by man only.
